Jackie Becher made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the establishment of Aubin Grove Primary School. Jackie drew on her deep knowledge and experience of early childhood best practice to lead the formulation of the school¹s early childhood philosophy which formed the cornerstone of our program that came to be regarded as exemplary and a model for other schools to use and aspire to. Jackie led her team to share her clear vision and beliefs for early childhood education and supported them to develop the knowledge and skills required to become highly successful educators. Jackie¹s work in this area was exceptional and formed the basis for the success that led to the school being awarded the WA Primary School of the Year for 2016.

Jackie has a clear understanding of the values and practices which inform transformational leadership and is easily able to inspire and motivate teams of educators. She is sensitive to the needs and aspirations of individual team members and has demonstrated ability in collaborating with diverse teams to support the overall operation and development of the school (e.g. educators, financial team members; support staff). Interactions with colleagues are always warm, respectful and highly professional. She has demonstrated high levels of commitment to her leadership role in developing the school, as well as a visible commitment to building the capacity of her staff. She maintains high expectations of herself and her team and aims always for high quality.

As a leader, Jackie celebrates the successes of her colleagues and subordinates, working collaboratively to improve learning experiences for children and adults alike and to broaden the teaching repertoire of teachers. Jackie has built on the strengths of the staff of her school, supporting them in changing their classroom practice and increasingly developing their skills as reflective practitioners.

Each and every opportunity Jackie has had presented to her has been taken fully and with integrity. Her continual striving to improve educational outcomes for children means that all challenges become research projects. She reads prolifically, engages thoughtfully and critically with ideas, investigates her own, staff, children and families’ thinking, records information in a variety of verbal and visual formats, interrogates data she gathers and is conscientious in bringing to visibility the limitations of her research.
